Gilead Lays Off 36 Employees After Cancelling Oceanside, California Expansion

Gilead Sciences has laid off 36 employees in Oceanside, California, following its decision to cancel the planned expansion of a biologics facility there123.

The layoffs take effect August 15, 2025, and were disclosed via a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice2.

The affected Oceanside site supported clinical manufacturing and process development for both Gilead and its subsidiary, Kite Pharma2.

A Gilead spokesperson stated the move is part of a plan to co-locate biologics development and manufacturing teams with research and development counterparts, shifting most biologics roles from Oceanside to Foster City, California2.

This layoff is in addition to prior reductions at Gilead’s Foster City headquarters, where over 250 jobs were cut since November 202445.
