AstraZeneca appoints Rick R. Suarez to lead U.S. BioPharmaceuticals business and $50B investment drive

AstraZeneca has appointed Rick R. Suarez as Senior Vice President, US President and Head of the US BioPharmaceuticals Business Unit.2 5

Suarez will lead execution of AstraZeneca’s previously announced $50 billion U.S. research, development and manufacturing investment.2 5

The investment includes construction of a $4.5 billion manufacturing facility in Virginia, described as AstraZeneca’s largest single manufacturing investment globally.2

This U.S. expansion supports AstraZeneca’s ambition to reach $80 billion in total revenue by 2030, with about half expected to come from the U.S. market.2 3

Suarez will have full responsibility for AstraZeneca’s U.S. BioPharmaceuticals organization, including performance, growth and execution across the portfolio.2 5

He previously served as Country President for Spain since 2020, leading one of AstraZeneca’s strongest European markets and expanding Spain’s role in global clinical development.2 1

During his tenure in Spain, Suarez helped establish a global hub in Barcelona and launched the AstraZeneca Healthcare Innovation Hub, committing more than €10 million to digital health and data‑driven initiatives.2 1

Suarez has more than 20 years of experience in the U.S. healthcare sector, with roles spanning commercial, medical and market access at AstraZeneca.2

He will be based at AstraZeneca’s U.S. headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, with the appointment described as effective immediately in January 2026 announcements.2 4
