GSK to Lay Off 150 Employees in Cambridge, Massachusetts Amid Vaccine Manufacturing Shift

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is laying off about 150 staff at its Cambridge, Massachusetts site as announced through a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act filing.135

The layoffs are a result of GSK's plan to transfer vaccine manufacturing work—specifically related to its multiple antigen presenting system (MAPS) technology—to a new facility in Marietta, Pennsylvania.35

The Cambridge site will be converted to focus solely on research and development (R&D), with all manufacturing functions relocated.5

GSK previously announced an $800 million investment to expand the Marietta, PA site, including building new facilities and adding approximately 200 new jobs for vaccine production.3

These layoffs come just months after GSK had signaled plans for Massachusetts expansion, underscoring a notable shift in local operations.1
